Roussanne

Intrigued by this rare golden beauty, whose origins lie in the Rhône Valley of southern France, we have been producing Roussanne since 2007. Expect fragrance, power, and savoury textural delight with great rewards in the cellar, for those who can wait.

"This is just outstanding. A textural feast! Snappy with its juicyness but a distinct chalky pucker also in the textural mix. Sea spray, grilled nuts, almost a fino sherry like character, nashi pear, ginger, lime and pink grapefruit going on too. Energy plus and so darn delicious. It strikes a chord for being really interesting and really good." 2023 Vintage. 94 POINTS - Mike Bennie,WBM

Old Vine Grenache

These gnarly vines were planted in 1946 in a deep sandy dune we call The Beach, overlying the North Maslin Sands geological formation. The Old Vine Grenache is a complex, perfumed and elegant wine with a trademark tannin structure.

"From 13.3 hectares of unirrigated bush vine Grenache, planted in 1946. Destemmed then fermented wild as 50/50 crushed and whole berries. Maceration on some parcels was as long as seven months. No pressings used. Matured in old French and Austrian foudres and puncheons, ceramic eggs and amphora. It was bottled in February for release in September, and has only just been sent out now. It feels nervy at first but it quickly settles and even before it has, a net of tannin has expanded and taken control. This grenache, even as it prances and skits, knows that it’s going to be good. It shows raspberry, cranberry and pomegranate characters, pippy and fruity, light and not light, a fish that can fly across the surface even as it dives for the deep. There’s a cleanliness to this wine but not a sterility; it presents its character in fresh, clean, intertwined lines. At $50 this wine remains a gift; intricacy of fruit, tannin and texture of this nature is rarely within such reach." 2023 Vintage. 95 POINTS - Campbell Mattinson,The Wine Front

2023 Yangarra Old Vine Grenache

GSM

Our Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvèdre blend is inspired by the traditional estate blends of the southern Rhône. The Grenache is sourced from a combination of young and old bush vines. We select the most elegant and perfumed Shiraz and add Mourvèdre for fragrance and solid tannin structure.

"43/34/23% grenache/shiraz/mourvèdre; élevage in old puncheons, foudre, ceramic eggs and amphorae. Naturally, this is grenache-led. And not just by numbers, but by flavour, lithe weight and architecture. Wild raspberry, damson and tart blackberry, with a liberal dusting of ground spices, dipping both into baking and master stock territory. The balance of varieties is à point, the tension, fine tannin, verve and energetic drive compelling. It is a finely wrought and keenly frisky expression. Superb, especially for the tariff." 2023 Vintage. 95 POINTS - Marcus Ellis,Halliday Wine Companion

Shiraz

From the old-world Rhône Syrah to the South Australian red sweetheart, Shiraz evolves once again in the sandy soils of Blewitt Springs. Sourced from six unique blocks over 47 hectares on our elevated site, the elegant Yangarra Shiraz is shaped by its connection to the sand and ironstone soils that overlie the ancient North Maslin Sands geological formation beneath.

"From six estate blocks, split between ironstone and sand, destemmed with half left as whole berries; élevage in French puncheons, with 25% new and the remainder 1–3-year-old oak. This is remarkably pretty upfront, bursting with red berries and cherries, underneath a bedrock of ferrous minerality – the split of soils writ large – along with baking spices and rosy florals. Trademark Yangarra tannins kick in swiftly and carry the flavours long through a savoury finish. This is charming, but it’s also built for food. Seems like a very fine year for shiraz at this address." 2022 Vintage. 95 POINTS - Marcus Ellis,Halliday Wine Companion.
