2022 Trueman Cabernet Sauvignon - Magnum *

Cabernet Sauvignon grows in ideal conditions on the Hickinbotham Clarendon Vineyard thanks to the combined influence of elevation, aspect, prevailing winds, weather and ancient soils. The ability to consistently retain expressive and fragrant aromas and obtain deep tannin ripeness with concentrated fresh flavours makes Trueman one of the estate’s most highly regarded wines. Violet, blueberry, purple olive and cedar aromas lead to rich blueberry, blackberry and plum flavours. Tannins are long and layered, delivering exceptional depth of flavour and a long, seamless impression that ages very well.
VINTAGE
The 2022 growing season followed very similar conditions to 2021, though slightly cooler. There were favourable winter rains and a mild flowering and fruit set period. The cool ripening period took place between late January through to harvest in March. Yields were well balanced, and we were pleased with the fruit ripeness, intensity, freshness, and natural acidity.
WINEMAKING
Hand-picked 29 March - 1 April, destemmed, selectively sorted and gently crushed to open top fermenters. Pumped over daily with a minimum of 21 days on skins. Basket pressed with light pressings included in free run directly to 60% new and used French oak barriques. Blended after 14 months and matured for a further 4 months in French oak before bottling. Bottled December 2023.Â
