The 2016 vintage was one of the most exceptional of the 2010’s in McLaren Vale. Good winter rains in 2015 and a mild dry Spring led to terrific fruit set across all varieties. A typical Clarendon Summer was broken up with some welcome rain in January and February, with Shiraz the first fruit harvested on 26th February. Steady mild conditions continued throughout February and March allowing for gradual sugar accumulation, creating fruit with great colour and flavour concentration.
Intense, yet lithe, aromas of dark chocolate, dried cherry, rose petal and minerality. On the palate the wine is sinuous and alluring, with notes of cherry and fresh boysenberry and savoury black olive; all framed by satiny tannins and a mouth-watering finish.

The wine is full-bodied and extremely elegant, with perfect ripeness, beautifully modulated fruit and tannins, and subtle oak handling. A thoroughly delicious cabernet, accessible right now but with the potential to mature gracefully for many years.

Hand-picked, destemmed but whole berries, open-fermented on skins 18 days, basket-pressed, only free-run juice, new and 1yo Bordeaux barrels, aged 15 months. It’s tempting to pour a glass immediately and savour it, for everything from the fruit, cedary oak and tannins to its acidity are in total balance.

Why Australian Wine is Some of the Most Exciting in the World A fresh and fragrant cabernet with violets and dark rose-like floras, cassis and blueberries. There is also a decent serving of spicy oak in the mix. The palate is smoothly arranged on sheets of formidably strong tannins, which are carried seamlessly into the finish. A stunning cabernet.
