Blending Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz is a famous part of Australian winemaking history and whilst the individual components of this wine are mighty, the sum of The Peake’s parts is magnificent. The Cabernet shines aromatically with notes of blackberry, blueberry and dark chocolate and provides majestic, long tannin structure. Shiraz fills the mid-palate with red berry, blackberry and plum flavours and lightens and elevates the Cabernet just perfectly. Fine tannins, balanced acidity and an incredibly long finish are the hallmark characters of the vineyard that epitomise this, the estate’s flagship wine. Named after the late Mr. Edward John Peake who established the first vineyard and orchard at Clarendon circa 1850.

The season opened with generous rainfall, carrying cool wet conditions through spring. These conditions shaped balanced canopies and modest yields while LaNiña brought cooler days and steady rains. Shoot thinning and leaf removal enhanced airflow and sun exposure. Picked before Easter, the wines reveal rare elegance - delicate, graceful expressions from a cool vintage.

The two varieties were hand-picked, destemmed and fermented separately, then gently basket pressed. The Cabernet on skins for 15 days and Shiraz 20 days. The Cabernet Sauvignon matured for 18 months in fine-grained Bordeaux barriques. The Shiraz is barreled down to 1-2 year old French and Austrian oak puncheons for 8 months before a further 10 months in 4 year old French oak foudre. The finest parcels from each variety were selected. Bottled October 2024.
